Students Solve Medical Challenge for Inner City Patients: BridgePort Partners with Case Western Reserve University for Supply Chain Case Competition 

Minority and veteran-owned global supply chain and logistics technology firm provides complex problem statement for students to solve a real-world supply chain challenge. 

 
Cleveland, OH - BridgePort has partnered with Case Western Reserve University to provide a unique opportunity for engineering, data analytics and supply chain students to address current and growing medication accessibility issues.  

The case competition will present students with a problem statement designed by BridgePort’s professional supply chain experts. Graduate and undergraduate students will work in teams to analyze the problem, design solutions, and present their recommendations to a panel of judges. 

"We are thrilled to partner with Case Western Reserve University to provide the next generation of supply chain leaders with an opportunity to tackle a critical supply chain problem," said BridgePort’s Director, James Morrow. "We believe that the case competition will allow students to apply their knowledge and skills to impact the healthcare of the aging community within historically disadvantaged areas." 

The case competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at Case’s Weatherhead School of Business. The competition will take place on April 21st, 2023, and judged by professionals ranging from supply chain, healthcare, government, engineering, and technology industries. The first-place team will receive a prize of $2,000 and agile certification training; the second place receives $750, and the third-place team will win $250.

The role of a supply chain administrator centers on supporting the wider supply chain team with administrative duties such as tracking deliveries, processing order confirmations and ordering stock. 

A supply chain administrator role is a fantastic entry point into the supply chain and procurement industry and will pose a brilliant basis for the rest of your career. Here, we outline some of the key duties and personal attributes desired of supply chain administrators. 

The supply chain is the backbone of business operations. So, companies must know all the activities happening in the supply chain to make sure it’s working the way it should. 

Supply chains are only used products for perishable. Every product type has a unique and dedicated supply chain. Every product is part of multiple supply chains.

Logistics plays an essential part in supply chain management. It is used to plan and coordinate the movement of products timely, safely and effectively.

What are the responsibilities of a supply chain administrator? 

The supply chain administrator’s primary role is to support the smooth-running of the supply chain department through administrative duties. These include: 

  • Assisting in the achievement of company objectives and KPIs 

  • Ordering stock from suppliers to fulfil customer demand and maintaining service levels 

  • Processing order confirmations from suppliers quickly and effectively, liaising with other departments where necessary 

  • Chasing suppliers for overdue items 

  • Resolving issues where stock does not arrive exactly as it should 

  • Maintaining all documents relating to supply chain process in accordance with the company’s quality requirements 

  • Communicating informed risks within the business to key stakeholders 

  • Preparing presentations, reports and analysis 

  • Supporting the function of the supply chain department 

What qualifications does a supply chain administrator need? 

Some employers request a degree or equivalent qualification in supply chain management or similar. Whilst this is not always a prerequisite, most employers will expect some previous experience in the industry or administration.

Meet Our New Program Manager

BridgePort Group is excited to announce that Marykate Hammer has joined our team as the new Program Manager for the Supply Chain Logistics Technology & Warehouse Certification Program!

Mary Kate holds a Master’s degree in Social Work and has experience managing vocational training programs in Maine and Texas. She is returning home to Cleveland where she'll support the educational needs of adult learners and help employers source qualified staff throughout the area.

In partnership with Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) and Community-based Organizations, BridgePort provides workforce development training that creates a pipeline of highly trained employees for our local businesses. The Supply Chain, Logistics Technology & Warehouse Program provides financial assistance and other supportive services through Tri-C and community partners. We have learned that offering additional resources helps to reduce obstacles and boost the chances for success of our students.
